What is Flower Tea?
The words flower tea can take on a few different meanings. More commonly, flower tea could be interpreted as a flavored or herbal tea such as jasmine, chamomile or elderberry tea.
Elderberry tea is a great drink during flu season. This tea helps alleviate sore throats and stuffy noses. As these symptoms are also associated with colds and allergies, you may find elderberry tea to be a favorite drink year round.
Jasmine tea, like many tea varieties, contains antioxidants which provide health benefits. Not only is jasmine tea good for fighting against bacteria, but it also promotes weight loss and helps you relax before bed time. Additionally jasmine tea can help those suffering from halitosis (bad breath).
Another type of flower tea is chamomile, which is very popular for its soothing quality. Most commonly, chamomile is recognized for its ability to relax an individual before bed time. Fresh and dried chamomile flowers are also used to scent oils and lotions to promote relaxation. Less commonly known, but also important, chamomile is good for alleviating stomach aches and cramps.
Aside from flowers that make up an herbal tea, there is another meaning to flower tea. The term flower tea can be taken literally, meaning it is a flower that produces tea. When tea leaves such as black, green or white are harvested, they are combined with an herb or flower such as jasmine, sewn into a flower shape and dried.
Preparing flower tea is similar to steeping tea bags or loose leaf tea. Make sure you have the proper water temperature based on the tea variety and steep it for the recommended amount of time or based on your preferred taste. As the flower tea unfurls, you will see a flower shape appear, as long as you are steeping the tea in a clear tea pot. Some say that flower tea can be steeped two or three times, as long as you remove the flower after the recommended preparation time.
If you are looking for a different spin on the ordinary tea bag or loose leaf tea, give flower tea a try.
